General: This qualification addresses work in residential group homes, training resource centres, day respite centres and open employment services, other community settings and clients’ homes.
- apply knowledge and skills gained through qualifications and/or previous experience to provide training and support to people with disabilities to enhance their ability to achieve greater levels of independence, self reliance and community participation;
- report to service managers and may liaise with health professionals and other service agencies;
- may work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of lower classified workers.
Entry requirements: Prospective students are required to have an English Language proficiency. You will also need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency. ITHEA will accept the following minimum English language test score:

**The Occupational English Test includes a mark between A and E. An A or B is considered a pass.
The test must have been taken no more than two years before you apply for your student visa.
ITHEA may also consider any English Language tests taken in Australia.
Practical placement requirements: To be assessed as competent in this qualification, individual workers are required to undertake supervised practical placements in relevant disability services settings. Evidence provided by the supervisor will contribute to assessment of the candidate’s ability to work at this level. Students must have a valid Police Check and a valid Working With Children Check. Students are required to find their own practical placement, however ITHEA will provide assistance and support where needed.

Assessment: Assessment methods allow for the gathering of sufﬁcient quality evidence about the student’s performance. Methods used include question and answer, activities, observation and role plays, and projects.
