General: The Certificate III in Individual Support Geelong programme supports the learning objectives of students aspiring to work within the aged care sector. Our Certificate 3 in Individual Support Aged Care Geelong programme will help students understand the role that aged care workers play within a community or residential setting. Through the Certificate in Individual support aged care Geelong programme, students gain an understanding of how aged care workers follow individualised plans to provide person-centred support to people who require support due to ageing, disability or other reasons. Students may either complete the Certificate 3 in Individual Support Aged Care Geelong course in person, or attend the Certificate 3 in Individual Support online Geelong programme.
Employment Growth: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to pursue work which involves their use of discretion and judgement in relation to providing individual support. As care workers, they will be equipped with a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.
Entry requirements: Prospective students are required to complete a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and a Pre-Training Interview, administered by and to the satisfaction of ITHEA and be at least 18 years of age. You must have good word processing and email skills as well as the ability to download and upload documents and information. Please see our Online Service Standards.
Delivery and assessment: We offer students the flexibility of choosing between online learning or classroom delivery. All students will be enrolled into our Learning Management System and all assessments must be completed online. As a result, all students will require a personal computer, with access to the Internet, to successfully complete their studies. Assessment methods allow for the gathering of sufficient quality evidence about the student’s performance. Methods used include question and answer, observation/demonstration, case study and projects.
Practical placement: To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. Students are required to undertake supervised practical placement in relevant aged care settings. Evidence provided by the supervisor will contribute to assessment of the candidate’s ability to work at this level. Students are required to find their own practical placement, however ITHEA will provide assistance and support where needed. Students must have a valid National Police Check prior to attending placement.
